Thank you for entering our Open Hill Climb and congratulations to all the prize winners.
This year's race was really competitive with a 142 strong, good quality field giving us a great afternoon's sport. The top 16 riders were all inside 2 minutes; we had one of the biggest women's fields I can remember, the top eight junior and juvenile riders were inside 2 minutes 30 secs, as were the top 12 vets.
It was a real family affair in the scratch results with James Lowden producing a brilliant ride to convincingly retain his Bec title, whilst sister Joscelin was a clear winner in the women’s race, toppling four-time winner Maryka for top spot on the women’s podium. With Edmund Bishop producing a brilliant ride to finish third overall, Harvey Weinberger took the prize for fastest junior and Bill Bell retained his vets title. Rapha Cycling Club took the team title, narrowly beating Imperial College CC.
Thank you to our timekeepers Lesley & Bob Donington, and to Tony Gibb who once again brought the race alive with his entertaining commentary.
This was my first year as promoter of this event, following Garry Beckett’s decision to retire from organising duties, and I hope you all enjoyed the great atmosphere we try to create on White Lane. Garry is a hard act to follow and I am grateful for his support and guidance in the run up to the big day.
I hope to see you all again next year.
All the best,
