Good Friday Track Meet - Rained Off
11th April 2009
With a first class field including Olympic Stars the 2009 Good Friday Track meet at Herne Hill, was scheduled to be a fantastic day. Sadly though the British bank holiday weather spoilt the event with rain stopping all racing at around 1:30pm. The morning had seen some hotly contested sprinting, but the main events including the endurance races only started at 1pm.
BEC riders, Keith Coffey, and James Hughes managed to get out on the track for the Point Race, a 25 lap race ridden with a large field. Despite the world class field both riders performed well and kept with the pace, working hard near the front of the main group after a five man break had formed. Much of their early season training had been aimed towards the Golden Wheel Scratch race (run as the traditional finale) although the bad weather made this impossible.
