Allan Ridler (Pedal Heaven RT) wins road race
6th May 2012
Congratulations to Allan Ridler (Pedal Heaven RT) for winning this years hard fought out Open Road Race. Second was Andy Betts (Felt Colbornes RT) and third was Martin Ford (In Gear Quickvit trainsharp RT).
Within a mile of the race being deneutralised a small group of four riders managed to break away from the front of the bunch. Despite working well together they never managed to increase the gap and the main bunch hung tantalisingly off the back at around 30 seconds. Both break and bunch were lapping consistently in 10 mins and a handful of seconds (see lap times below). This situation continued through the first half of the race, until two groups of three riders managed to get across to the leaders.
With 3 1/2 laps to go the front group consisted of 15 riders, with the gap to the heavily depleted main bunch no more than a minute. Then with two laps to go Allan Ridler and Andy Betts took off from the front of the group, managing to stay away right up to the finish line.
Live race updates were provided on Twitter, although few could get a signal ( @BecCyclingClub )
The preliminary results are below. There's still a few positions to fill once the video footage has been checked.
