2010 Season Starts Here

By Club Captain.

Happy new year to one and all.

Now that some of the miserable months and christmas are behind us, it's the perfect time to start planning for the 2010 season. I think most of us have gone for the traditional Bec approach to winter training and have just been pushing out the commuting miles for the last couple of months with little else. But this month is the perfect time to be planning your summer goals, and club life always gives you the opportunity to try something new.

Shaun_and_keith_1.jpgDuring 2010 the club will be aiming once more towards the Southern Counties Time Trialling trophies, and pushing out those ultra fast times during the summer is something that needs a little planning and training towards. TT's are what we're good at, although we're allways on the look out for new riders to learn from the 'old blokes' and bring new blood to the sport. The 2011 season is likely to bring the National 24Hr to our local roads, so this year we need to be getting as many riders experience of the longer distances as possible in preperation.

Last year only a few of us rode the Track at herne Hill, I must admit I didn't get there myself as much as i would have liked. But this year i'm planning on doing more. The wednesday night race series is always great fun, and brilliant sprint training for road racing. The club's got some spare track bikes for anyone that fancies coming along and trying it out. A couple of Saturday morning training sessions will get you up to speed, then you can ride the wednesday night series. Experienced or not, make sure your prepared for the 2012 opening of the olympic velodrome, there's bound to be some trial events before the big day... we're all looking forward to riding there!

09RoadRace_468_1.jpgThrough March, April, and May some of us will be road racing again. It's a great way to build early season form and gain valuable fitness for the Good Friday track meet.

Some riders have already talked about riding the Tour of Flanders Cyclesportive this year although with it and the Amstel Gold Race clashing with the Good Friday Track meet and SCCU 25 respectively not many of us are up for it. However, there are plans for a summer trip to the Pyrenees.... Let us know if your interested.

As ever the club will be promoting four major open events this season, the Road Race, Open 10TT, Open 25TT and Hill Climb. It'll be all hands to the decks on these days to assist the promotors, and keep up our good standards.

Bletchingley1__7__1.JPGNew club kit is now in, and available to purchase from our Club Treasurer (Shaun). This year they'll be some new items including club gilets, summer race jersey's and winter training kit. Have a think about what you'll need and drop him and e-mail.

Dates for your diary

Sunday 17th Jan, will be our first club ride of the season. 2-3 hrs at a relaxed pace. Please let me know if your coming along or need any more details. Otherwise i hope to see most of you at our new club room on the 28th Jan for our AGM (I hear the bar is cheap!)

Finally, the web site calendar is now populated with most of our events for 2010. Please have a look through it and get some dates in your diary....

Also, have a look at the full program of 21 events counting towards our 2010 club TT awards, and the full 2010 district calendar

Herne hill track program also now available.

Good luck for the new season, and hopefully i'll see many of you at the AGM.
